It's my bandmate's birthday. The present I ordered for him at the last minute isn't here yet.
Now, I don't know how much the following story has to do with a conversation I was having with certain suspect individuals last night...
...since I did already know this was one of Paul's favourites as a kid...
...but today I was in Alty (Woolies, in fact - pure class yo) and ended up buying him an extra pressie.
*skritches Jelly and Ayu-Asra*
GHAHAAHAHAAAHAHAHA :D :D :D :D
He loved it!!
Bit of a random question for the metalheads here, and don't feel obliged to write him a huge long answer of course (though I'm sure he'd appreciate it!), but a friend of mine asked for recommendations for...
quote:...some black metal that doesn't suck. Ludicrously overblown, apocalyptic, symphonic, epic, stupidly huge black metal a la 'Progenies [of the Great Apocalypse]' [though he doesn't like anything else by Dimmu]
[...] Death metal (and grindcore for that matter) has never appealed to me that much. I like the brutal epic melodicism of black metal; death metal is just brutal. Which is alright, but it's a bit boring. I don't have a lot of time for [...] fretwanking.
Beats me. I'm not a huge fan of either. Based on what a BM guy (with whom I study English/pedagogy) listens to, meh, Limbonic Art. He's big on that at least. Dark Throne too. But I bet he has both.
I consider it futile to even attempt to recommend "something that doesn't suck" to a metalhead, really. :P
(And wtf, BM isn't fretwanking? 1/32 note triol wankage galore!)
Okay. Long story not-so-short:
I listen to a lot of stuff (mostly metal, goth, an industrial) but when it comes to metal i'm a black metal guy. so.
For the epic melodic stuff, Black metal is the best; however also good is operatic metal, gothic metal, some few power metal bands, and some symphonic death metal which might seem like an oxymoron but isnt. in some sort of odd order only in my head (and maybe my music library)
This won't all be black metal by a long shot however. but hey:
Agathodaimon, symphonic black metal and truly awesome. Look for the album 'Serpent's Embrace'
Daath, death metal ( i know, i know) and slightly pretentious but heavily melodic death metal and also awesome. haven't released an album yet but seen 'em live and they're briiliant. keep an eye out around... march. i think.
Edguy, one of the few good power metal bands.... likewise
Heavenly
Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, forgive the pretentious name, they're brilliant Symphonic Death Metal
Finntroll, they're, well, a finnish black metal band. all lyrics in thier own incomprehensible european language but they're awesome.
Kamelot, one of *the* best black metal bands I've ever heard. awesome. 'Black Halo' is my favorite album
Lacuna Coil is gothic rock/metal. very dark and very melodic and very awesome, dunno if it'd be metal enough for you
Leviathan are more awesome black metal
Macbeth, yes, that's actually thier name, yet another pretentious name but a very good gothic metal band
Nightwish, one of the awesome operatic metal bands who i'd be astonished if you hadn't heard of, but worth a plug for awesomeness,
Opeth, mainstream as hell and everyone knows 'em, but i like. more black metal
The Crest, gothic metal, pretty damn awesome,
The Wounded, call themselves 'gothic doom metal' and I love it.
Theater Of Tragedy are industrial/gothic metal, got a bit more electronica in there than most metal, but very nice stuff
Therion are one of the awesomest operatic metal bands, ages above Nightwish. go for the album "A'arab Zaraq Lucid Dreaming" for the more black metal-melodicy stuff, as they in the course of two albums can swing crazily between melodic and damn awesome but rather heavy death-metaly. all is good though.
Thanks guys. I meant to mention, but must've forgotten to, that the dude asking is not a metalhead at all - anyway, I'll pass those on to him.
He offers many thanks!
Hmm. In that case,
add Ensiferum, Moonsorrow (especially! Hugeass epic!) and Wintersun to the list.
Yeah, they're all Finnish, but I've got to look out for me countrymen, ay?
I'm baaaaack!
Minnie Mouse says hello and all the Disney Princesses send their kindest regards.
My favorite princess is now tall enough to ride almost all of the rides! WhooHoo! And we can officially name her another RollerCoaster Addict. Got a great picture of her with both arms up on one of the coasters. It was so cute, I even stuck a crowbar in my wallet and bought the souvenier (sp) photo.
We also went whale watching, which the resident princess deemed "booooooring". hehehe. And visited the giant pandas at the San Diego zoo. Cool beasties. While we were gauwking at the pandas, the kid says "here mom" and hands me a tooth. Yes, a tooth. Out of her head. First one she's lost and that sucker has been wiggling since Christmas Eve. So I got to walk around the rest of the day at the zoo with a tooth in my pocket and every 15.8 seconds Stephanie had to ask me to check to see if I still had it because heaven forbid we lost the thing and there was nothing to put under the pillow for the tooth fairy. Mwahahaha. Do I know how to have fun or what?
Oh yeah, has anybody seen my niece's journal lately?
Welcome back. :D Sounds like princess is the same rascal as always.
No idea about the journal though.
Well, it should be on the way...
Unless I forgot to take it to the mail. Oh, please no... o_O
I'll dig around a bit when I come home to make sure.
Hi!
Happy birthday to me! ...Well, tomorrow, that is.
I baek u a caek so fast no one saw me do it. :)
I wish my parents were home so they would do that. Well, maybe they will while I go to Helsinki on Saturday. :D
'appy boifdeiii
Tum te tum. I temporarily locked the Who is Profusion thread because of a spam attack (note to self, it seems to be the word 'guestbook' that attracts them - reword it), so if you want to post a quick introduction in the meantime just do it here and I'll move it.
I GMed my first game IRL two days ago! Go me!
Of course it didn't go exactly well, but at least it worked. :D
Cool. What game was it, and what happened?
