Everyone's a kitty...

Someone on my LJ friends list has a cat named Sylvie. Throws me for a loop each time they mention her.

... There are so many things I could say to that, but I'm afraid I'd wake up with parsley growing out of my nose, or something. Rightly so, mind.

Anyway. I keep saying everyone's a kitty.
Forinstance Sebastian and Daaren and me like climbing trees, On top of that I'm easily distracted by shinies or anything. I think Sebastian has some of that, too, actually. Hm, add to that the "nine lives" stuff...

Everyone except me.

Suitov, for example, is social, tenacious, often fairly energetic, quick to learn and - in some regards at least - consistent in his behaviour. He pays attention to people and likes to keep his inner circle nearby and organised. Classic cat traits.

Basaltine barks, scratches, sniffs things, drools, snores, chases around, yelps, howls, finds things funny and chews things. Also a kitty.

Weft: No. But I thought since everyone else invents traits as evidence, I'd be ahead of the game for once. *sticks tongue out, combs hair insolently*

I'd have expected something like "Suitov is an arrogant bastard", and maybe some reference to black cats bringing bad luck.

Weft: *puzzled* But he's pale. And I'm not in a blasphemous mood. He is arrogant, though.

Suitov: *hurt silence*

Mutt: *talks and is generally ignored about lucky black cats and Americanisms*

Weft: Treter remains still a lot, listens a lot and only surfaces to ask questions. He touches things a lot. He is very calm. Clearly he is also a kitty.

Treter: Hi.

Black fur, er, hair, though, and likes to dress black.

That about Treter actually kinda fits. Hi. :)

Enough anthrocentricity can make animals of us all, my godmum says. If you wanted to know, I've oft been called reptilian, not usually catlike.

What is all this cat business, then?

Well, just a bit of fun. Everyone knows Weft is a kitty, Snog declared Helmine a kitty, I'm at least a part-time kitty, but when you think about it you can turn just about anyone into a cat.

Forinstance casting Gabriel as a tomcat is very easy. Pointed ears, excellent night vision, territorial, main interest sex.

Hm, mind, there's a bit of an overlap between reptilian and catlike, namely that cats and reptiles are both supposed to be difficult to out-stare.

But Treté, they're pulling your leg about me being a kitty. It's a running joke that really frays my temper.

Has to do with the foxe's role as mischievous trickster and thief in some traditions. Ask Sebastian for details, I'm not sure how closely his map to the fables I know.

Is this Sebastian a folklorist? If he's here... care to explain further?

I got the impression he had some interest in that area, in addition to being folklore in some parts.
