I don't think any of our lowlifes would advertise through written media, even assuming they could write. Most news among that sort of people is usually word of mouth, for some good reasons and also some superstition.

Reputation is almost everything among our criminal set. If you've never heard of someone at all it can mean all sorts of things, but if you've never even heard of her organisation, it usually means they're small time and not worth bothering with. If you boast a lot and put yourself about, it looks suspicious.

It's a paranoid system, largely tailored to guard against plants and infiltration, but it can be and has been beaten.
