I'm also only a tiny fraction of the order and killing is deemed necessary in only a miniscule proportion of cases. It's not as if we don't try other ways first.

So you only murder people if someone else "deems" it absolutely "necessary" and you feel all guilty about it later. That's all right, then!

No, it's not. It's a nasty world. My superiors didn't make it that way. But they collectively have a lot of experience and wisdom, centuries of it by your standards, and that's why I trust their goodness and their judgment. Both are far better than my own. And that is why I do what I'm told and don't need to question anything. If they have decided someone needs to die for the good of society, that's what has to happen.
