Wow. That came out wrong. I meant, you all can take the bedroom, I take the futon I normally sleep on in the living room.

On second thought, hotel's probably more comfortable. And y'all are probably in a non-internetted place.

And yeah and huzzah for the wolf pop increase. Pity we can't do the opposite for homo supposed-sap.

I am very, very frightened

And we may not be leaving, so I am even more afraid now.

Please get somewhere safe! My mum's in touch with a US meteorologist and he's terrified.

quote:

The strongest storm ever was the Labor day hurricane of 1935 which wiped KeyWest clean and had sustained winds of around 200mph with wind gusts far beyond that..
At 898mb Rita must have winds of at least 175mph to 180mph or more... This is beyond imaginable. I feel great terror and fear, this is far beyond anything.

Hell. Leave. There's crash space at my place, seriously. And S.A. isn't that far. Traffic isn't great, though.

Leave a message at 505-639-0392, cause I don't have my cell at work.

There is little hope of getting out of town at this point. Last I heard it was a 13 hour drive to San Antonio on I-10 (usually a 3 hour drive). There is not a single gas station inour neighborhood that still has gas. Lots of people that started to evacuate have turned around and gone back to their homes. I have secured what I could.

The storm has weakened, and it has turned a bit, all things that we hope will be good news.

We are sheltering in place.

Here are my phone numbers (not that we will have phone service after the storm, but what the hell.)
cell 832-594-8630 hm 713-729-6112 wk 713-666-1771.

I don't expect to have phone service or power after saturday morning. I did scrouge up enough bottled water so that we have about 8 gallons. Still far short of the 5 gallons per person they recommend. We have some food, and if worse comes to worse, I guess I'll be cooking by tea light.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right .... oh wait .... that was probably a bad choice of sayings. :-)

I am still working on getting him to consent to leave, but at this point, it's getting a bit late. We'd be far worse if we got caught by those winds on the road.

Thanks for the offer Cehrn. I have a brother in Selma, and we will probably head there. He's not wild about the pet thing though. hehehe.

I'll check back when I can.

Truth. I heard some were going there to bring gas to their relatives so they could all drive back. And horror stories about having left houston yesterday and still being on the road to San Antonio.

Arrrgh. Good luck. Wish I could send you stuff, but as you said, its a bit late. Give us updates.

One of my brothers left his home in Victoria and 3 hours later had only gone 60 miles down the road. He's heading to Buda (love that name!) which is just outside Austin.

And on a completely different note. I love this google.earth thing. Click on the link and
see my neighborhood. See that little house labeled Pilgrim School? That's where Stephanie goes to school. Okay, so I'm easily amused. But indulge me, I'll be hiding in a closet this time tomorrow night more than likely. I figure I'm entitled to some random weirdnesses. :-)

Nice neighbourhood. I hope it will still look roughly the same in a few days' time. *clingstoRina*

My, but I am feelin' lucky this morning. We lost part of our fence to the wind, as well as the shingles on Stephanie's playhouse and the clinic sign. But the rest is okay. I was quite happy to see the beast take that last minute jog east. It at least put us on the "clean" side of the storm. The east side of a hurricane gets all the tornados and the heaviest wind and rain.

I'm sure the local meteorologists were crushed to see it turn away. The rest of the town was dancing a jig though.....

And now for something completely different....

Where do old Pro boards go when they die?

Do we have an archive somewhere?

You asked for it!

Oooh, get you!
Whoops!
I've got your number, duck
You couldn't afford me dear, 2, 3
I'll scratch your eyes out!

Don't come the brigadeer game with us, dear.
We all know where you've been, you military fairy!
2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4

Stop that! It's silly!

And now for something completely different!

Apologies to those who aren't Python fans.

What are you looking for, Rina?

I have some (incomplete) archives of stuff that was lost in the crash around December last year.

And backups of the really ancient Pro boards on another computer, but I should get those backed up onto CD anyway.

(Paul loved the Parrot Sketch!)
