Hehe. Just spent half an hour breathless with giggles. I was talking to a French guy, Manu (short for Emanuel), who's just joined LipSoc. He's studying English in France and is here for a year, and was quizing me over the meaning of some idiomatic English phrases:
Manu: *listens to song* What does this mean?
Me: What, Manu?
What does it mean? "Turn me on"?
Oh, ummm, it's when you make someone feel, sort of good... happy.
Oh, ok.
Moments later...
Please turn me on
What?
Please turn me on?
Oh, Manu, I don't think you can go around asking that.
Oh...
Later still...
Chav? Is this a word I could use in an essay?
Laura and Julia, in unison: NO!
Yes, Manu, the correct idiom for chav is "scally", or "townie scum" if you're from Simon's neck of the woods.
who needs to invent aggie jokes????
They give us such a wonderful supply of ammunition.
And people wonder why I don't like to admit I went to school there.....
The last is a country and western song?
Hallowe'en Poem
Brill. *eg*
Did I mention Epiclore's new sample album is out, with legal mp3s? *hugs iPod*
The vocalist... he's not the best technically, and he goes flat in places, but as far as my ears are concerned he (like Churn) can do no wrong.
A True Road Hog!
*snickers madly*
And a narcoleptic dog!
No cracks about "Just like you then, Mutt", please. ;D
Interesting how they prescribe Ritalin for narcolepsy and ADD-related stuff.
*tempted to find out why that is*
Ritalin's a stimulant - there was a fuss about it back in the '90s, apparently, with people saying "OMG kokain!!!!!1" and stuff. Maybe that's why it helps with teh narko? *shrug*
No, it's chemically related to speed, but not really in effect. It stimulates the part of the brain concerned with "Executive control", or summit like that, which is basically one's ability to control oneself, sorta. Like, concentration and ooh, lookit the puppy! I mean... er... what was I talking about?
DragonForce's official website has got absolutely Slashdotted now they've put out a new sample.
However! You can get it from their Myspace page - I think you have to sign up first. Through the Fire and Flames is, how can I put it, a very very very very good track. Er, if you like extreme power metal. *g*
If their album cover was a skin, I'd wear it.
*eg*
Sounds are good too.
And I went to the zoo
Ahmmm..6 out of the 83 pics I kept (need more sdness) are up there.
*worships*
I'm reading The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers (fan page about author). I came across it quite by chance, but it's actually quite a lot of fun (the setting is great and the story's nice and twisted, even if I'm one step ahead of it a lot of the time). Anyone want a soft copy?
