Further news on the server upgrades in October. Summary is that there won't be any interruption in service, just to my access to the server control panel for a little while, so we're fine.
My excellent webhost has very good backup coverage (as I've had cause to test on one occasion) and I keep my own weekly backups of the messageboards and wiki synched to an online data storage service.
The scheduled slot for the upgrades changed to sometime today. If you get any "internal server error" messages (you shouldn't) while browsing Pro or HHnet, please let me know.
Upgrades (the schedule keeps changing) are now supposedly at 99% completion for our server.
We were out for an hour and a bit around 05:00 (UK time) this morning, HostTracker and Montastic inform me. I don't know if that's related, since the upgrades weren't supposed to disrupt service.
Eff Why Aye, more server upgrades in June.
The PHP switchover won't affect our boards and wiki, because both are Perl. The only things possibly affected will be Mutt's blog and Drupal, should I by some miracle get a test version public by then.
Probably Sunday 8 June, which will be fine...
Our server was upgraded with no apparent problems.
Also apologies if you had problems accessing the site on Friday. Apparently a distribution centre somewhere in the UK suffered a DoS attack.
Server upgrades 20-21 Jan. Again, shouldn't knock anything out.
(I fell foul of the "MailFoundry MX record bug" they mentioned and got a lot of spam, so yay that THAT's being fixed.)
Still scheduled for Tuesday evening, probably beginning at 21:00 UK time.
I would like to bring everyone's (well, Ree's) attention to this... :D
(They did kind of neuter my pun a little by dropping the full title, "In the hall of the Mountain Dew". Ahwell!)
Expect some downtime overnight (UK time) at some point soon. Our site will be much faster as a result.
If you spot any weird errors, whether Discus, Perl, MySQL or whatever, let me know.
Server downtime scheduled for 20:00 4 Apr 11 to 0900 5 Apr 11 (UK time).
