Which worlds have I forgotten?
Worlds involved in the worldgate events/Great War:
Major powers
Shade
Vespers
Elven supremacist empire (shared, Mutt and Ree(?) and whoever else)
(More definitely needed here)
Minor powers/'neutral' folks:
Weft's homeworld
Fuzzworld
(A few other conquerables)
Duration of War
I'm going to have to be horribly biased here just to get a comprehensible timeframe in place.
Worldgate events begin - Suitov age 14
War proper begins - less than year later
Worldgate mechanics cracked;
War ends (on paper) - Suitov age about 40, 42*
War winds down, politics - a few more years
* This would be in his 50s for a modern Earth peep because of Shade's medical/tech level, so we can't push much further because I want him present and powerful at the end. Aftermath can take as long as we want, because he disappears after the war's officially over.
Does the timeline sound reasonable? And who still wants their worlds to play a part?
erhm, sorry I took a while to respond here, life was and is... interesting.. right now.
So, we've got about 30 years to muck about in? sounds fair enough to me. Hmmm. yeah, ideas I have. 30 years (about two generations for my lot :P)will do me, unless my little foxy people get restless after.
'Tis cool. Afterwards is pretty much a blank slate, though I'd been envisaging most of the powers learning to live with each other - or alternatively cutting themselves off completely. Because getting control of these wormholesque 'gates' would basically allow your planet to keep in contact as frequently or as rarely as it wants to.
I assume we'll finish the war by handing each planet control of their own gates, though you never know: we could have territories remaining occupied with the occupying power holding all the strings, effectively controlling their contact with the rest of the universe.
Weft's world reacts by minutely controlling immigration/emigration on their end. They're verrry enthusiastic about control. Whereas Shade is "let's be friends, who wants to swap researchers? Hey, look what we invented!"
I hope I'm not the only one to find the thought of Sebbie moving next to Weft's monastery as that annoying neighbour from hell.
Weft says that would be a laugh, but advises Sebbie not to try fishing, singing, dancing, womanising, running games, stealing or being swashbuckly inside city limits without a license.
Because the authorities are very pointy and would probably make it a point of personal enjoyment to specify Weft as the one rub the halfie out. And he doesn't want that. (...though Sebbie might...)
He'd like to know if there's a license needed for using the gents, too.
"Not in your own house, of course. That'd be ridiculous."
And here he thought he'd make a fortune selling for-- AUTHENTIC relief licenses. With an authentic for-- AUTHENTIC license making license.
"It's like hanging around a lightning rod! I really should walk away, shouldn't I." Weft makes no move to do so.
I've posted up a bunch of information about Weft's monastic order, their knowledge web and Weft's backstory - added a few bits and pieces to the monk himself too.
Nifty reading!
I'm just pondering if I can get any of my stuff in here. The problem is that I work a lot with parallel universes, rather than different planets - physics optional.
Eodea has five moons, at least four of which do not influence tides, to start with...
I have one alternative earth which is basically the real world with added magic, which I would NOT feel comfortable writing about in such a context.
Grey's homeworld is a different one, but I have developed pretty much nothing of it.
Dahl is not on a planet, but in a pocket dimension.
Hm, I have a race with no homeworld yet poking around in my head I can kinda see as a bit-player, maybe.
Another hm... I had planned an isolated elven supremacist empire for a continent on Eodea... But they'd be pretty different from Ferais :/
Shade's ferais are meant to be different from elves...
If they are different from elves, I don't see why elves should react differently to them than to other species.
I designed them to a lot of elf stereotypes, notably being woodsmen and very snotty to other races, as well as magic and music in their culture.
What I meant there was that I hope the differences work too, and they don't all seem like Legolases. ;D
Well, expect some babbling and bouncing of ideas when we meet on AIM and have some time. ;)
The more I develop sketchy futures for my War-involved worlds, the more I keep running into the problem of having to keep it vague (because we don't know what happens yet) or the flipside (deciding or, more likely, accidentally presuming stuff without being able to consult anyone).
This isn't a question or a moan - more of a general "hmmm".
Though three or four of my characters might have cause for raucous complaint, considering what I plan to do to them in said future. Possibly.
Just how many War-involved worlds do you have, anyway?
Ugh, i've been thinking too much about my own private world lately. should really get back to ideas for the (main) one i wanna get involved in the War.
Currently Shade, the 'fuzzworld' (not really involved as a whole entity, just contributes some troops) and 'Weftworld' (can you tell I'm not good at naming things?) as well as minor shared worlds or ideas for worlds.
