"Well.." Jonas swallowed. "I guess you're right. I sure am a long way from home."
Plucking a ball from the pouch at his belt, the seaman considered for long moment, rolling the ball around his long fingers. A sudden snap sent the lump of lead soaring out into the air, and down, and down.
Jonas stood on the ledge, watching as the speck fell away into the haze of lights far below. The man beside him grinned.
"Everyone here is far from home, kid. You'll get used to it. Now, c'mon. We've got a long way to go tonight." He laughed and leapt into the air.
Jonas sniffed and rolled his shoulders. With one final glance at the cityscape, he sniffed again, settled his tricorne, and for the second time that day, stepped off the ledge.
