totally off-topic but inspired by that article on humans, i hate that D&D-esque 'all the other major races are totally stereotypical of one aspect of humanity except elves who are perfect' thing so damn much.
Then again, I hate tolkien/D&D elves anyway.
Ooh. Yes. I guess some fantasy things do that 'stereotypical of one aspect of humanity' too. It's hard for me to generalise, as it's been a long time since I played D&D, even unseriously.
I enjoyed the elves in Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies.
So did I; as I enjoy pretty much everything the man has ever written. They were pretty damn close to what I think of as elves; just another word for the High Sidhe fae.
Personally, I found the cat comparison the most apt of all. It chimes with what I know, in the depths of my canine souls, to be true.
